UKDirectHostUKDirectHost | UKDirectHost http://ukdirecthost.co.uk Affordable Web Hosting, Cheap Dedicated Servers Mon, 24 Dec 2012 07:45:20 +0000 en-US hourly 1 2nd Birthday http://ukdirecthost.co.uk/blog/2nd-birthday-2.html http://ukdirecthost.co.uk/blog/2nd-birthday-2.html#comments Mon, 24 Dec 2012 07:43:22 +0000 admin http://ukdirecthost.co.uk/?p=178 We recently passed our 2nd anniversary of being a UK Limited company and I thought I would drop some thoughts here on how it has been so far.

With a dream, we started the company in its current capacity as a limited company in the UK, offering cheap dedicated servers, quality affordable shared hosting packages and cheap VPS’s. Things were slow in the beginning, and with a handful of clients we slowly increased our servers as orders slowly rolled in.

Relying solely on the word of mouth advertising method, we gradually increased our clientele to our present day clients. The clients who have joined us and become part of the family like the way things are done here, with our no-nonsense attitude and quality hosting.

In 2011 we became a PEER 1 partner, and our enterprise server clientele love the super-fast connection we can provide for them using the PEER 1 FastFibre peering available. Being part of the PEER 1 family has enabled us to grow our business and provide our clients with superior internet connectivity, mission critical for any business looking for business hosting. With our existing 17 POP’s available presently, we expect to increase this in the new year.

So what can you expect from UKDirectHost in 2013? We have been requested by many of our clients if we can provide multi-IP servers in the EU for SEO purposes. We will be able to provide servers with 32, 64 and 128 IP’s. We’ll also be able to provide a premium service with C-Class IP’s available in the next month or so.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank our loyal clients for being with us on this wonderful roller coaster ride, as well as so wish them a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Stick with us to see some exciting new additions to our product line in 2013.

Best wishes

UKDirectHost Ltd Team

Expert offers website optimization tips http://ukdirecthost.co.uk/blog/expert-offers-website-optimization-tips.html http://ukdirecthost.co.uk/blog/expert-offers-website-optimization-tips.html#comments Sat, 06 Oct 2012 18:59:53 +0000 admin http://ukdirecthost.co.uk/?p=170 It’s well known that a slow website can frustrate visitors and result in abandonment, but there are other ways a slow website can hurt business. When talking about search engine optimization, many experts will focus primarily on the importance of content. Although it’s important to make sure business pages have relevant, high-quality information, search engine crawlers also factor in the time it takes them to load the site.

The company’s ecommerce hosting provider plays a critical role in website speed. Businesses need to ensure the vendor’s infrastructure can support the content they want to deliver on the site. Organizations can also take steps to optimize pages for the highest level of performance. Writing for Business 2 Community, Frank Isca, an account executive at marketing agency Weidert Group, offered several tips for improving website speed.

UKDirectHost Ltd, partnered with FastFibre provider PEER 1, offers superb speeds on all servers and will help with improving your SEO score by speeding up the connection to your website. Visit UKDirectHost for cheap dedicated servers.

1. Images Publishing high-quality images can be important for increasing engagement, but the more content the site must load, the higher the demand on the infrastructure running the site. Isca identified one mistake when it comes to resizing images for online use: Using an HTML editor. When a developer shrinks images using HTML, it only changes the way it appears on screen. Meanwhile, the site still has to load the old version of the image and this can reduce performance without any benefit. Images should be resized using editing software before they’re uploaded. Isca also suggested sticking to the JPG, PNG and GIF file formats.

2. Plug-ins Plug-ins add bonus functionality to the website, such as social sharing features. Isca pointed out that a large number of plug-ins can negatively impact site speed, especially if there are many all on one page. In addition to high-performance ecommerce hosting, this impact can be reduced by selecting a content management system with essential features already built in.

3. Test with multiple platforms Another common mishap can happen when content loads quickly on one platform, but not another. A recent VentureBeat article highlighted several website optimization mistakes among retail startups. For example, fashion company Gilt scores well when it comes to users on desktops, but things get bogged down for iPhone users, according to VentureBeat. Contributing to the sluggish performance, the mobile version of Gilt’s website is larger than recommended, with 41 images and 55 unique elements.

“Also, following mobile best practices of combining Cascading Style Sheets and JavaScript, and keeping JavaScript at the bottom could help them improve their 15.56 [second] response time,” the article stated. ” But on the iPad, the speeds are much slower. Here they’re using 19 domains and not following many of the same best practices. Compounding this, they’re delivering 2,232 KB of content over the mobile network.”

As Gilt’s case shows, a website’s performance can vary drastically even between seemingly similar devices like the iPad and the iPhone. As the market for mobile expands, the diversity in devices and platforms is likely to increase dramatically, increasing the range of performance needs that websites must address. This means ecommerce sites will need to guarantee performance on an increasingly large number of screen sizes and platforms. It may be important to continuously reevaluate site performance as new technology emerges, and it is essential that ecommerce hosting contracts allow for the flexibility needed to encourage a positive website visitor experience.
